Pierre Roy has shaped television content and made an indelible mark on the industry over the past 40 years. His television expertise and illustrious career make him a real asset for Agence QuébéComm as it takes on an increasingly important role in the television industry.
As president of Chaînes Télé Astral from 1992 to 2013, Pierre was on the front lines for the biggest transformation to hit the industry to date, with the unprecedented expansion of viewing platforms and changes in viewer behavior. Pierre would play a key role in adapting to these big changes. He was actively involved in creating new specialty channels such as Vrak TV, Canal Vie, and Z Télé, as well as in the creation of new distribution platforms through cable, satellite, and the Internet.
Pierre is no stranger to the boardroom, having spent 21 years at the helm of the INIS board and 12 years as a board member of Fondation de l’UQÀM from 1996 to 2008. In addition to his commitment to his professional community, Pierre Roy is also involved in Générations, a social organization that oversees such well-known public services as the Tel Jeunes and La Ligne Parents hotlines.
As a television industry veteran, Pierre Roy has garnered a lengthy list of awards and distinctions over the course of his impressive career, including the Montreal Arts-Business Personality Award. He has also received the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television’s Grand Prix de l’Académie and UQAM’s Prix reconnaissance award.
Since June 2015, Pierre has been the board chair for the Cinémania francophone film festival. He also chairs the Fondation Claude Jutra board at INIS.
